This page is dedicated to addressing the unique challenges faced by women within the Jehovah's Witness community. The accompanying podcast features a diverse range of women from around the world who share their personal perspectives on what it was like being a female in the Jehovah's Witness organization. They offer insights into feeling like second-class citizens and discuss various experiences that highlight this inequality. Topics covered include being assigned tasks such as cleaning the men's bathroom, being dismissed by circuit overseers, and feeling humiliated by the requirement to wear a head covering.
Many of these women express that they were unaware of the extent of their second-class treatment until after they left the organization and began critically examining the teachings. It was then that they started recognizing the absurdity of the teachings and the unfair treatment they had endured.
Within the organization, many women conform to the Watchtower's teachings because they believe it to be a divine commandment from God. Over time, they may become desensitized to the mistreatment, and their minds adjust to perceive it as normal. This normalization of mistreatment can perpetuate the cycle and prevent individuals from realizing the inequality they experience.
Addressing the struggles faced by Jehovah's Witness women is crucial in fostering understanding, empathy, and support. By providing a platform for these women to share their stories and insights, we hope to raise awareness of the issues they face and encourage critical thinking about the teachings and practices that perpetuate gender inequality within the organization.
